The next Over the Water Vintage run will take place on Sunday, April 9, starting in Ballymurn at 12 30 in aid of Ballymurn Hall.

Golf classic

There will be a golf classic in aid of Ballymurn Church funds on Friday, April 28, Tee off times from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Venue Enniscorthy golf club. Entry fee €120 per team of four. Contact numbers to sign up Paul 087 2360073, Jim 086 1617037, Brian 087 2453293.

Cabaret

There will be a cabaret in the Anvil running in conjunction with the golf classic on the following night April 29 where prizes will be presented to the winning golfers. This a parish event for neighbours and friends to join us and enjoy. Music is by McBride.

Ticket sellers for this cabaret will be out around the parish during the coming weeks, your usual generosity will be greatly appreciated and will enable the finance committee to update repairs to the church, details of which are displayed on the notice board. Also any unwanted or unused gifts you may have would be greatly appreciated as prizes for the raffle.

GAA club lotto

Blackwater

Litter Lift

Blackwater Tidy Towns, in conjunction with Wexford County Council and An Taisce plan to hold this year's Litter Lift on Saturday, April 1,. This annual litter collection is a great opportunity for parishioners in all areas to tidy up the nearby roadways. Gloves and litter bags will be available on the bridge from 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 1.

Tidy Towns meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month and new members are especially welcome.

Youth Club

The county talent competitions, 'Juniors Got Talent' (for junior club members) and 'Youth Factor' (for senior members) will take place on Friday, March 24, in Oylegate Community Centre. There are seven categories: Solo Singing; Group Singing; Solo Music; Group Music; Solo Dance; Group Dance and Performance, which includes Drama Pieces, storytelling, Poetry Recital; Individual 'Stand Up' Comedy; Magic Act; Impersonators; Juggling Act; Ventriloquist etc. The maximum number in Performance is 10 people and the minimum is one.

Galbally Tractor Run

The annual Galbally Tractor Run in aid of Galbally Parish Funds will take place on Sunday, May 28.

Community Games

Well done to Sam and Harry Devereux, who won the under-eight and under-10 Co Art Finals and have qualified for the National Art Finals which take place in Abbottstown in August. Congratulations also to Odhran Kehoe, who won the silver medal in the under-12 Handwriting.

Well done also to all others who took part Oisin Harte, Sarah Lillis, Ruby Bennett, Hannah Ryan, Conor Ryan, Kevin Murphy, Alice Murphy, John Murphy, Aidan Murphy and Fred Devereux. Hard luck to the 16 Chess team of Michael Humphrey, Cormac Kehoe, Odin Doyle, Nicholas Howe and Tom Quigley, who lost the first intercounty round against Carlow last weekend. Closing date for Community Games Gymnastics is this Friday.

SN Seosamh Naofa, Bree are now accepting enrolments for September 2017. Enrolment packs can be collected at the school office or you can call the office (053 247725) for a pack to be posted out. Please return the completed enrolment forms by March 1.

Community Centre AGM

Bree Community Centre AGM will be held on Monday, April 3, at 8.30 p.m. All organisations are requested to have two representatives present at this AGM. A number of chairs, suitable for elderly members of our community, were recently removed from the meeting room in Bree Community Centre. Can these chairs be returned immediately please?

Bree AC Athletics

Best of luck to all Bree AC athletes competing in the National Indoor Championships this weekend. Outdoor athletics resumes for the summer season in Ballyhogue GAA Grounds on Mondays and Wednesday at 7 p.m. from April 3 All athletes taking part must be registered for 2017. Indoor training will finish on Thursday, March 30.

Anxiety/Nutrition

A reminder that there will be a Childhood Anxiety and Nutrition talk in Crossabeg school this evening, Tuesday, March 21 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The talk is being organised by the parents' association. Following the talk there will be a question and answer session. Refreshments will be served afterwards. All are most welcome.

Muck Race

Crossabeg Soccer club will hold a muck race at Artramon farm on Sunday, April 2, registration is at 2 p.m and the race gets under way at 3 p.m. This will be a 5K race over rough, wet and mucky terrain and only those over 18 can enter. The entry fee is €10 per person and there are prizes for first and second place men and women. For further details please contact Ken at 087 9960135.

Clean up month

April is designated 'clean-up month'. Yes it's that time of year again and residents of the parish are being asked to play their part in keeping the village and surrounding towns lands free of unsightly litter. Volunteers are needed to give just a couple of hours to help with the work.

Two dates have been set aside for this task. The first one will take place on Saturday, April 1, and all volunteers are asked to assemble at Kyle Forge at 11 a.m. Gloves and litter bags will be handed out. A.

n hour or two of your time is all that is needed to make a difference. You can clean-up the roadway near your own residence or help out on other roadways. Please encourage your family and friends to join in too.

Church news

Adoration every Monday from 1 p.m with Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m followed by Mass at 7.30 p.m. Adoration then continues till 9 p.m. Confessions for Lent every Saturday evening at 6.30 p.m. Trócaire boxes available at the back of the church. Prayer meeting every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m in the parochial house.

The Intermediate A footballers lost to Fethard 2-10 to 0-6 in the league on Thursday last, while the Junior B hurlers lost to Monageer in the league on Sunday, going down 4-17 to 5-6. There was better news for the minor hurlers who defeated the Shamrocks on Sunday last on s 3-15 to 0-5 score line.

In the league next weekend, the intermediate hurlers will play away to Rathnure on Saturday at 3 p.m while the Junior Bs will play away to Duffry Rovers on Sunday at 6 p.m. The minor footballers will play St Joseph's at home on Sunday next at 11 a.m.

Congratulations to Ronan Devereux, who made his first start for Wexford senior footballers on Sunday last against London, where they won to get promotion to Division 3 for next year.

Over the Water

Clean Screen Sweep

The Clean Screen committee will hold a meeting in Freddie's on Monday next, March 27, at 9 p.m. The committee are about to get the 2017 projects under way and would love to see a few more people join the group and help maintain the standards they have already set. The more people they have, the easier it becomes for everyone, remember they are all volunteers.

John Creane is welcomed as the new Fas worker and the committee thanks Ossie Murphy for all his hard work during 2016. If you have an hour or two to spare and would like to get involved, then go along to the meeting or leave your name and number in Freddie's and a member of the committee will be in touch.

Bridge Drama

Following their recent and very successful sellout run, the local Bridge Drama group return to the National Opera House on Thursday and Friday of this week, March 23 and 24 with their production of 'An Inspector calls' by JB Priestley.

Currently competing on the circuit around the country, they are excited to return to the local audience with this very popular psychological thriller. For bookings call nationaloperahouse.ie or call 053 9122144.

Operation Over the Water

The organising committee for the St Ibar's/Shelmaliers camogie club fun run/walk on Sunday, March 12, were delighted with the turnout to finish off the Operation Over the Water fundraiser. Winners were Seamie Harding (first man) Sarah Lacey (first woman) and Seán O'Leary (first youngster).

Presentations were made and handed out to the group of Lorraine, Kathleen, Sharon and Lorraine (biggest group weight loss) Annie (individual weight loss) Pauline and Mary (best attendance) Jack Canning, Niamh O'Brien and Lucy McCormack (children who competed).

Thanks to Yvonne Busher, Seamie Harding, Martina O'Sullivan, Dermot Malone NCEHS and Dave Murphy, who gave classes each week and Darren and Martina (Fit Nutz) who kept the group going.

School news

There will be an open evening in Curracloe national school on Thursday, March 30, at 7 p.m. This is an opportunity to view all classrooms and facilities including the new Sensory room. Pupils from fifth and sixth class will present their entries for the Junior Entrepreneur 2017 competitions. Mrs Torpeys music group will provide entertainment. This evening is open to all including current and prospective parents and their families. Refreshments will also be served.

Abi Murphy from sixth class represented the school in the Easons Spelling Bee county final held in Gorey on Tuesday, March 14, She secured a place in the final round and finished in fifth place overall.

Split-the-pot: recent winner was Margaret O'Doherty, who won €168.
