Golf classic

There will be a golf classic in aid of Ballymurn Church funds on Friday, April 28, Tee off times from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Venue Enniscorthy golf club. Entry fee €120 per team of four. Contact numbers to sign up Paul 087 2360073, Jim 086 1617037, Brian 087 2453293.

Cabaret

There will be a cabaret in the Anvil running in conjunction with the golf classic on the following night April 29 where prizes will be presented to the winning golfers. This a parish event for neighbours and friends to join us and enjoy. Music is by McBride.

Ticket sellers for this cabaret will be out around the parish during the coming weeks, your usual generosity will be greatly appreciated and will enable the finance committee to update repairs to the church, details of which are displayed on the notice board. Also any unwanted or unused gifts you may have would be greatly appreciated as prizes for the raffle.

vintage run thank you

Ballymurn hall committee would like to thank Over the Water Vintage Club for organising the vintage run in aid of the hall. A total of €3,345 was raised. Thanks to Ballymurm community for your generous contribution, be it money, food, prizes and especially all who worked on the day.

Parish Defibrillator

A defibrillator has been purchased with money that were that were fundraised by our community last year, With the permission of Peter Doyle, it has been installed outside his premises. If any person/club would like training or to be a volunteer, please contact Nick Byrne. We thank all who contributed their time and money to make this very important life saving equipment available to all.

Blackwater

litter lift thanks

Blackwater Tidy Towns would like to thank all those who volunteered for the annual Wexford County Council/An Taisce Litter Lift on April 1. A large volume of plastic and glass bottles, drink cans and other rubbish was collected from all the approach roads to Blackwater village. A skip was kindly provided by Wexford County Council on Monday, April 3, Driving along the roads now one can see a big improvement in the general tidiness of the verges and it is hoped that with more awareness of the need for protecting our environment the need for this Litter Lift will diminish over time.

Active Retirement

A meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at 2.30 p.m. at the Stonehouse Restaurant, Blackwater Hotel with a view to setting up an Active Retirement Group in Blackwater. All those interested in being part of this group are cordially invited to attend. A representative of the Regional Active Retirement Association will attend and give information on social programmes, insurance and the mechanics of setting up the organisation. It is essential that there will be a good attendance at the meeting.

COFFEE MORNING thanks

A big 'Thank you' to all who contributed in any way to the great success of the recent coffee morning in aid of the Irish Kidney Association. Over €1,100 was raised. Special thanks to the management of the Bridgeside bar and restaurant (formerly the Blackwater Lodge).

Men's Shed

There will be a meeting of the Men's Shed this Tuesday, April 25, in Bree Hall at 11 a.m. New members would be very welcome to come along and find out more about the group and what they do.

Congratulations to the Bree United Men's team which clinched the Division 3 Title by beating Bunclody 2-0 last Sunday week.

Clothing Collection

Bri Beag is hosting a clothing, household textiles and mobile phone recycling collection with drop off at Bree Community Centre this Thursday, April 27, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. and on Friday morning, April 28, from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. or drop bags into Bri Beag. Items accepted are clean, dry clothing, soft toys, shoes, handbags, belts, laptops, mobile phones, curtains, towels etc.

Ladies' Football

Under-10 training for Girls Football takes place at Bree pitch on Sunday evenings from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Contact Sharon at 086 3059296 for further information.

Community Games

The Community Games County Talent Competition for under-12s and under-16s takes place in Bree Hall on Saturday, May 13, Competitors from Bree, Davidstown and Cloughbawn parishes are invited to take part. Events are solo and group dancing, singing, music and drama. Entries must be with the area Sec by this Friday, April 28. Please check with the area sec (Clare at 087 4151350) or the Community Games website under Resources/Rule Book for each event rules. An area final may be held on May 4.

The local Athletic Finals will take place on Thursday, May 11. More details later.

Best wishes to the under-10 Indoor Soccer team in the county final against Glynn-Barntown on Tuesday, May 2, in Enniscorthy at 6 p.m.

Galbally Tractor Run

The annual Galbally Tractor Run in aid of Galbally Parish Funds will take place on Sunday, May 28.

Bree AC News

Outdoor athletics takes place for the summer season in Ballyhogue GAA Grounds on Mondays and Wednesday at 7 p.m. The next club outing will be St Abban's Open Sports on May 1.

The County Championships take place on Sunday, May 7, and Sunday the 14th in the Hub. All athletes taking part must be registered members of Bree AC for 2017 to take part.

Glenbrien

Dogs Night

This year's fundraising event for Holy Family school Glenbrien is 'A Night at the Dogs' in Enniscorthy Greyhound Track, on Thursday, June 1. The first race will be at 8 p.m. There will be a gate prize on the night as well as a raffle. There will also be complimentary face painting and goodies for the children.

Any Local buisness es or Companies in the parish, who would like to sponsor an add in the programme please contact any member of the parents' association Dont leave it too late to get your Add in, the programme is filling up fast.

This promises to be another great community night for everyone in Glenbrien. Tickets are now on sale in the Community Tickets are €10 for Adults and all children under-14 are free.

Cake Sale raffle

The following prizes in the Cake Sale raffle have yet to be collected; they were bought on the Saturday evening before mass: Cream Ticket 661-615A (clock picture frame), Pink ticket AQSVDG49 481-485 (bottle of whiskey), pink ticket AQ5VDG49 991-995 (bottle of wine), pink ticket AN5A9M47 (bottle of wine).

Once again a big thank you to all those who supported the cake sale and the tea and chat the total raised was €465 and the Total on the night of the quiz was €328 raised for the church funds. A huge thank you to all those who helped in any way - it was much appreciated.

Village Renewal

The Village Renewal group would like to thank all those civic minded volunteers who collected very large volumes of rubbish. A very big thank you to Weexford County Council for supplying the necessary materials needed for the job and collecting the rubbish.

Local Notes

The deadline for receipt of notes for inclusion in these Local Notes is Thursdays at 9 p.m. The notes are usually completed and emailed to the paper that night. Items received after this deadline may be held over till the following week.

Scoil Mochua

Split-the-pot - The winner this week is Jim Dempsey, who won €162. The winners of the three Easter hampers were first Niamh Sinnott, second Jonathan Furlong and third Sheila Mythen.

Dunnes Stores Bag Packing - Dunnes Stores in Gorey have kindly given Scoil Mochua two days to fundraise for our local primary school with their Bag Packing scheme. This has proven to be an excellent fundraiser in recent times. Scoil Mochua has been allocated next Friday and Saturday, April 28 and 29th. All you need to do is choose a two-hour slot between midday and 6 p.m. both days.

The school IT system urgently needs updating and by volunteering to help with the bag-packing you would help greatly towards obtaining this much needed resource. If you are willing to help please contact the school at 053 9136177.

Ministers of the Word

The Ministers of the Word on the weekend of April 30 are Breda Jacob and Linda Masterson. Eileen McGrath and Angela Lawless will be on reading duty on the following weekend. Readers are reminded that the new rota is available from the sacristy.

Active Retirerment

Members and intending members are reminded that membership fees are now due and can be paid any Tuesday, between 2 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. in Oulart Community Centre. A cup of tea and a chat are available every Tuesday at 4 p.m. and members are encouraged to attend.

Church Gate Collection

St Patrick's Special School, Bohreen Hill, Enniscorthy will hold its annual Church Gate Collection in Oulart and the Ballagh on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30. Your usual generous support would be greatly appreciated. All money collected will stay in the school to benefit all the special needs pupils.

Coffee morning

A coffee morning in aid of the Cardiac Unit in Crumlin Hospital will be held in the Crosses, Kilmuckridge, on Friday, May 5, from 10 a.m. till midday. Admission is only three euro and there will be Door/Raffle Prizes.

Underage GAA

On Thursday, April 27, our under-14 team are away to Craanford, at 7 p.m., in the first round of the championship. On Sunday, April 30, Oulart-The Ballagh under-12 hurlers will be at home to Ferns at 11 a.m.

Well done to the under-12 hurlers who recently won the Rathnure Tournament in Rathnure. Well done also to their manager Philip Rossiter and to mentors Alan O'Connor and James Roche. The First-Aid provided by Pauline Roche is also much appreciated.

Camogie news

Well done to the junior players on winning their final round match in the Junior C (A) League on Saturday, April 15. They defeated Ferns by 4-08 to 0-03.

Hard luck to the under-16 girls who lost their first round match against St Martin's on Wednesday, April 19. It was a very competitive game with the final score 3-10 to 2-10. Best of luck in their next round match against St Ibar's, Shelmaliers.

Footgolf Fundraiser

Looking for a fun family event? Fancy trying something different? How about some Footgolf? Come along to Blackwater Golf Course on Saturday, May 20, to take part in our Footgolf Féile Fundraiser. The cost of entering a team is €40 (4 people on a team) and it is suitable for age seven upwards. There are lots of prizes to be won.

This is a joint fundraiser by Coiste na nÓg and the camogie club in aid of our under-14 Féile teams who are progressing well with their preparations for the Féile competition in June.

Cúl Camps

Two Kellogg's GAA Cúl Camps,(open to children between the ages of six years and 13 years) catering for hurling, camogie and football will be held in Oulart this summer.

The first camp runs from July 3 to July 7 and the second camp runs from 14th to August 18. Early booking is advised. The camp fee is €60 and a family discount is available for second and third members of the same family. A jersey, training top and back-pack are included in the cost.

Oylegate NS news

The PA of Oylegate N.S. are holding a coffee morning on Thursday, May 11, in Mernagh's - the funds raised will be used to bring science workshops to the school.

Active Week - Oylegate NS are having their Active Week from April 24 to April 28. The children will be trying out a number of exciting activities including orienteering, frisbee golf, penalty shoot out and much more. On Fri 28 the school will have a colour walk down to the community centre. All members of the community are welcome to join us in this walk. We will leave the school at 12.45. Remember to wear bright coloured clothing.

A coffee morning in aid of Wexford Hospice Homecare will take place in Oylegate Community Centre on Saturday, May 13, from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Family Challenge

The GAA Club will host Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA Family Challenge on June 3 and 4 in the GAA grounds.

Over the next few weeks we will be busy recruiting teams to participate in the challenge. The challenge will involve family teams completing a fun filled obstacle course that requires team work and skill to enable one of our families to be crowned the 'Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA Family Challenge Champions'.

Please save these dates in your diary as a fun weekend is guaranteed for all involved. More details to follow later.

New members are always welcome to join our club. The following are training times for 2017: under-8s Mondays at 6.30 p.m.; under-10s Mondays at 6.30 p.m.; under-12s Mondays at 6.30 p.m.; under-14s Mondays and Fridays at 6 p.m.; under-16s Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m.; Minor Fridays at 6.30 p.m.; Junior and Intermediate Mondays and Fridays at 7 p.m.

Ladies' Football

Under-8s training is on every Wednesday evening in Crossabeg pitch at 6.30 with Ciaran Kearney (087 6121959). Registration is €30 and gum shields must be worn. Under-10 and under-12 training is also on every Wednesday evening in Crossabeg Pitch at 6.30 p.m.
