Athletics

Well done to St Killian's senior member Brian O'Shaughnessy, who recently competed in the county senior road championships. Over a challenging course he had a great race to finish in 15th place. Meanwhile club mate Pádraig Moriarty travelled to Waterford for the very popular Viking Half Marathon, where he finished in 29th place, out of a field of over 1200 competitors.

As most of Wexford was travelling to Croke Park on Sunday to support Davy and the boys, Niall Sheil travelled to Tullamore to compete in the National Masters Track and field events. Now in the over 40 category, Niall competed in the 5000m. Conditions were perfect and in a competitive race Niall got his tactics spot on. With a lap to go he was lying in fourth position but timed his kick to perfection and put in a great performance to take the national title.

This puts Niall in a great position as he prepares for the county championships this week and the European Masters championships later in the month in Denmark. Niall had great support on the day from his club mate Nicky Cowman, who was working hard officiating in the field events. As always his coach Pavel Kolesnikov was track side making sure everything was going to plan. Well done to all.
