Underage GAA

The minor footballers of St.Fintans/Our Ladys Island will play their County Semi Final this coming Saturday 3rd October. At time of going to press the game was down for 12.30pm in St.Patricks Park Enniscorthy yet this could change so please check sports pages and fixture listing for details.

The u14 hurlers travelled to Blackwater on Saturday last to contest the Division 4 County Final V Buffers Alley.

A game of two halves saw the Buffers Alley side really come into their own in the second half coming out as worthy winners on the final whistle. OLI/St.Fintans boys played some really good solid hurling but just could not match the strength of a really strong Buffers Alley side.

The support for the boys on the day was very strong with plenty of supporters on the sideline. Well done boys on reaching the County Final, you have done your clubs and families proud on a very successful season and we all look forward to seeing ye back in action in 2016.

Junior A Hurling

Kilmore was the venue for the local derby on Sunday morning where St.Fintans met St.Martins in the Junior A Hurling quarter final. With the sun shining down on events both teams got stuck into the action from the first whistle.

With the opening point coming from Shane Sinnott(Mayglass) the Fintans lads settled well in the first 20 mins with a couple pointed frees coming from Jim Rossiter and club stalwarts John William Rowe and Niall Murphy putting in plenty hard tackles.

With 10 minutes left in the first half Frank Staples received a red card for a faceguard pull which turned the game for St.Martins with the Piercestown men putting over a few fines scores before the half time whistle. Score at half time 0-7 to 0-6 to St.Martins.

The first 10 minutes of the 2nd half saw St.Martins score five unanswered points. St.Fintans made three substitutions to try freshen it up but to no avail with St.Martins taking advantage of the extra man. The end score 1-16 to 8 points sees an end to the season for St.Fintans hurlers.

With a few players missing off the hurling field this year the Winter hopefully will give the Ballymore/Mayglass men an opportunity to regroup and refocus for the 2016 season.
