Ballymitty hall A.G.M. - The A.G.M. of Ballymitty Hall Committee will take place on Tuesday 20th October at 8 p.m. in Ballymitty Hall, all are welcome.

Date to remember

Monster Drive In Bingo in Ballymitty on Sunday 25th October at 3p.m. with prizes of €1500, raffle on day, and refreshments served, hope to see you there.

Sunday Cafe

The next Sunday cafe in Ballymitty will take place on Sunday October 25th from 11 am to 1pm so come along and enjoy some delicious home baking and a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate while chatting to neighbours and friends.

Dancing

Dancing continues every Thursday night in Tir Na nOg in aid of Ballymitty hand ball club with music this Thursday 15th Eugene FFrench, Thursday 22nd Tom Murphy, Saturday 24th dancing with Mary Pendergast and Thursday 29th Noel Furlong and Brian Robb. Come along and enjoy the Dance.

ICA guild

The local Carrig-on-Bannow ICA guild held its first meeting following the summer break Eileen Hannon the President welcomed everyone. Votes of sympathy were passed to the families who had bereavements over the summer months.

Eileen thanked the outgoing officers Anne Crosbie and Rene Grace for their hard work and commitment to the guild over the years. Best wishes were sent to Rene Grace on her special birthday. A special thanks to Annette and Pierce Breen for hosting a gardening evening last June which was enjoyed by all.

We were awarded 3rd place for overall presentation at the Special Occasion held in Adamstown in June last. Well done to everyone who worked very hard to make it a success. Congratulations to Mary Flynn on getting 3rd place in the brown bread competition.

Our competition winner on the night was Margaret Bohanna and raffle winner was Bridie Breen. Next meeting will be on Monday 12th October at 7.30pm in Carrig community centre. Hostess will be Annette and that night's competition is for the best 6 homemade biscuits. New members welcome.

Christmas Shoe Box

It's that time again when we ask you to prepare a shoe box with presents in it for children who won't get anything for Christmas. They can be left in the PO or Breda's corner shop from now until 8th November.

Soccer News

Corach A team went down away to Wexford Celtic last Sunday 4-2. Corach went 1 down after 10 with some poor defending and that's how it stayed until the break.

At the start of the 2nd half John Staples tucked away a penalty followed by a headed goal from Adam Diskin after Corach had their best spell. But Celtic upped the pressure and scored 3 goals without reply and ran out deserved winners.

A severely under strength B team went away to St Leonards last Sunday and despite putting up a good battle we went down to our first loss of the season 1-0.

"Split the Pot" took place in Stafford's of Tullycanna on Sunday 27th September; the winner of the pot was Alan Babs Martin winning €531. Well done Alan. In the draw in Tir na nOg, Wellington Bridge on Sunday 4th October the winner of the pot was Eamonn Kearns winning €537. Well done Eamonn.

Next week's draw Sunday 11th takes place in Colfers Pub, Carrig on Bannow.

Facebook Training Event

Following on from the success of their recent Facebook for Business events, the digital media experts in iCandy Marketing will be holding two upcoming Facebook for Business Training events in the office of Bridge PC Repair, Wellingtonbridge on Saturday 17th October from 10am-1pm & Tuesday 20th October from 6pm-9pm. Camogie

Our junior girls lost to Marshalstown last Sunday 4th oct in the County Final. It was disappointing on the day as they had done well in all previous games. A big thank you to Davy McDonald and Bidina O Sullivan for all their work and to the club officers and all who helped in any way.

'Songs for Syria'

As a fundraiser in aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres/Doctors without Borders in Syria there is a concert on Friday 23rd October in Colfers Pub, Carrig-on-Bannow. Doors 7.30pm. Tickets €10, available from Colfers Pub in advance, and on the night. Music from John & Pip Murphy, Kilmore Quay World Music Choir, Paula Cox, Laura Hyland, Michael Martin & Friends. Open session at the end of the evening-all singers/musicians welcome.

Handball

Congratulations to Danielle Kinsella on winning the girls U12 Leinster doubles championship with Shauna Owley from Coolgraney beating a very strong pair from Kilkenny in the final. Dean O 'eill and Tom Conners also from Coolgraney had to settle for silver in the boys U13 doubles final as did Niamh Miller in the Girls U13 singles final. Well done you all represented your club and county very well all games were played in Mullinavat Co. Kilkenny.

GAA club news

Lotto results: numbers drawn 10, 11, 15 and 29. No winners Margaret Doyle Barrystown was one of the match three numbers. Next Jackpot is €9,500 and will take place down in the Complex on Tuesday 20th October. Thanks to everyone for their continued support of the lotto draw.

Hard luck to the Junior Camogie squad who were beaten by Marshalstown on Sunday last in their County Final. All to do for next year, thanks Ladies for all your hard work throughout the year and of course we cannot forget about Davy McDonald and Bid O Sullivan the gaffer and his sidekick! Thanks to Michael Wallace and the staff of Tir Na Nog for feeding the team after the match. The Junior Ladies footballers joined us for the grub and a drink .

After a twelve year gap from a County Final the Intermediate footballers have secured their place in this year's Final. A two point win over Bunclody last week will see them face Glynn / Barntown this Friday evening in Taghmon at 8pm. Time now for the Parish to support and get the black and red colours up. Well done to the squad and their management team of Pip Murphy, Dan Brosnan and Tomas Kavanagh. Please check the sports section, Facebook page and twitter account as time and venue could change!

Fundraiser

On 17th October in The Oak Tree, Foulksmills at 9pm, an auction is been held in memory of Darren White and in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, with the support of Clongeen Ladies GAA & Clongeen GAA.

This amazing Trust brought Darren home after his sudden death in The Philippines last month. On the night we are holding an auction with some great items up for auction.

There will also be great music from local musicians and a raffle also. Tickets only €5 so please come & support this great cause.

Our Lady's Island

Card Night

A Card Night will take place in the Old school Hall on Tuesday, 20th October at 8.30pm sharp. €5 Entry fee on the night includes a house draw and also a percentage of the 'Pot' to the overall winner. So all 45ers / 25ers come along for what we hope to be a fortnightly event. There will be 'Beginners Tables' for people wishing to learn the game, or starting the game. Tea and Coffee available on the night.

Organ Recital

An Organ Recital by Richard Dunster Sigtermans will take place in Our Lady's Island Church on Sunday, 1st November at 3p.m. sharp. Admission €10. The programme is tuneful and appealing and you are guaranteed a very pleasant afternoon. Tea and biscuits in the Community Centre afterwards. Your support for Church funds will be very much appreciated.

G.A.A. Lotto

As there was no winner of last week's Jackpot, Our Lady's Island G.A.A lotto now stands at €9,000 and tickets may be purchased from local shops and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match-3 prize each week and-Joan Power (seller Padraig Power) shared in this prize last week. Last week's numbers were 3, 5, 14, 15. Thanks to all for your continued support.

Drama Time

As part of The Wexford Festival Fringe Events, The Ballycogley Players will present 3 One Act plays in St.Michaels Hall, Thomas Street, Wexford from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th October at 8pm nightly. Admission €10.

Monster Raffle

Tickets are now on sale for a Monster Raffle in Aid of Tacumshane Old School Development A chance to win some Excellent Prizes and to support this local project. Tickets cost €5 and will be available for sale after all Masses next weekend. Community Lotto

There was no winner of last week's jackpot of €8,700. The winning numbers were 3,5,14,15. Congratulations to the ten match 3 winner's who each received €30. The match three winners were Mary Reddy, Jenny Cloney, Joan Power, Leigh Colfer, Theresa White, T. O'Brien, Mary Culleton, Kevin Cahill, Tony Bates, Mary Stafford. The next jackpot stands at €9,000 and the draw will take place on Tuesday 13th October at 8.30pm.

Christmas Fair

The Annual Christmas Fair held for the past number of years in Rathangan Hall will not take place this year. We would like to thank all the traders and everyone who supported the fair over the years.

couch to 5K

A couch to 5K group is starting at Rathangan walkway from Monday 12th October and is suitable for anyone who would like to increase their fitness. The plan is to start at the beginning of the couch to 5 K programme on day one and progress through the six week programme. The group will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the walkway at 7pm.

There is no cost and the purpose of the group is to act as motivation for each other to show up. There is no pressure to actually run 5K as not everyone will have that goal and may continue to mix walking and jogging. If you have any questions contact Eleanor Carpenter at 0857455434. There is no need to download the couch to 5K app as there will be a leader each week.

RATHANGAN CEMETERY

As previously announced the system for the payment of new graves in Rathangan Cemetery has changed, the payment will now be handled by the funeral undertaker's who will include the price on their invoice.

The prices which were agreed by the parish council in 2006 remain unchanged (Single €150, Double €300, Treble €450). Graves may be pre bought but the price per grave doubles (Single €300, Double €600, Treble €900) The facility to pre-buy graves is available only to parishioners, former parishioners and their immediate families.

Pre bought graves will only be allocated in rotation and must be kerbed within Six Months of purchase otherwise the plot reverts back to the parish with the payment non-refundable. The payment of pre bought graves will be handled by the parish council, All queries will be dealt with by the secretary Martina Furlong (051-563262, 086-3509600

St. Anne's GAA news

The St. Anne's GAA Club Executive were delighted to announce that the club has received a grant of €58,000 under the Sports Capital Grant Programme. Our thanks in particular to Deputy Paul Kehoe for his support from the commencement of our application. This will enable us to start the construction of the Hurling Alley in the coming months. This is great news for St. Anne's GAA and we have no doubt generations of our Parish will reap the rewards in the future.

Women's Shed

Women's Shed meets on Mondays from 10am to 1pm in Tomhaggard social centre. If you want to learn new skills, share your own skills, a change of scenery or just have fun, chat and a cuppa among likeminded women why not give it a go. It's just €5 per week, which goes towards running costs. The group plan on attending Knitting and Stitching Show in Dublin in November so if you're interested check out the Shed Facebook for details.
