A NIGHT OF COMEDY

As yet another Wexford festival opera season draws ever closer the fringe events associated with the festival would not be complete without the Ballycogley players. This is the largest annual fringe festival in the south east and it celebrates its 60th birthday this year and the Ballycogley players are proud and honoured to have contributed to these events for many years past.

This year will be no different with the group performing three very funny and entertaining one act plays on October 25th, 26th and 27th in St Michaels SVP hall Thomas St. (opposite CBS school). Admission is ten euro and the curtain will be drawn at 8pm. The group will present "Parental Guidance" by Eammon Kelly, "The Try" a new play by local man Greg Brannock and "The Fat Lady Sings" by David Tristram. A night with the "Players" wont get rid of your troubles but will certainly help you forget about them for a couple of hours.

BOOK LAUNCH

The Wexford town launch of One Shade Of Green by Helen Skrine was performed by Liam Gaul at the Book Centre, South main street, Wexford on Thursday evening last. Liam paid tribute to the quailty of the writing and gave the attendance a taster of some of the stories but leaving the audience wondering, thus encouraging them to purchase the book.

He also paid tribute to the publishers the Ballycogley Heritage group for recognising the value of the book and undertaking the publishing of it. He complimented the on the quality of the publication.

Speaking on behalf of the group Fintan Murphy paid tribute to Helens writing, thanked Liam for launching the book, C&R Print for the quality of their work and the Book Centre for hosting the launch. The book is on sale at the Book Centre, Foleys of Ballycogley and will also be distributed to good bookshops around the county.

CHARITY DANCE

A charity dance in aid of the Mayglass church restoration fund will take place in the Danby Lodge Hotel on Friday November 2nd from 9pm till late. Music by Tom Murphy. Tickets costing 7.50 euro will be available at the door or contact 086 3117991.

LEINSTER CLUB GAME

The St Fintans intermediate A football team took on Killcavan of Laois on Saturday afternoon last in Wexford park in the first round of the A.I.B. Leinster junior club championship.

A game which the club hoped to be a good workout for next Saturdays replay of the intermediate A football county final turned out to be a non event with the men from the sunny south east cruising to a 411 to 1-9 victory with the Kilcavan goal coming from a penalty kick with just minutes remaining.

The contest was not helped when a Kilcavan player was sent off for a second bookable offence just before the half time whistle at which St Fintans led on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-6. This game did help the twenty players used to come to terms with the rather "dead" surface of the park something they will encounter next weekend. Well done all concerned.

ALL BLACKS AFC

An under strenght Division 2 side suffered a heavy defeat on Sunday last when they lost out to Corach Ramblers on a scoreline of 5-0, Noel Rafferty, Archie Jones and Graham Healy tried hardest for the Blacks.

The Division 3a side also suffered a heavy defeat to Ballymurn but did manage to find the net with goals from Lorcan Byrne and Gary Redmond. The club would like to wish the best of luck to St Fintans in the replay of the county intermediate A final this weekend.
