Four Bord Bia awards for Wexford businesses

There were four Wexford winners at Bord Bia's Amenity Horticulture Awards for the garden industry in Dublin.

The awards recognise and promote excellence across key sectors while celebrating the industry's dedication to achieving the highest standards of operation.

Of the 28 garden centres presented with awards, three were from Wexford, as well as one nursery grower.

Cois na hAbhann Garden, Home and Lifestyle Centre in Camolin were named 'Small Garden Centre of the Year' as a result of their commitment to developing their business while continuing to provide 'an excellent customer experience'. The business received a 5 Star Gold Quality Award and was one of only three garden centres in the country to achieve this grade.

They also managed to win a special award for 'Best Plant and Merchandising Display'.

Glanbia CountyLife in New Ross were awarded a 4 Star Garden Centre Award. They are one of only fourteen garden centres of the fifty participating nationally in the programme to have achieved a four star rating or higher. Meanwhile Kilcannon Garden Centre and Restaurant in Enniscorthy was awarded a 3 Star Garden Centre Award.

Finally, O'Connor Nurseries in Gorey received two awards: 'Best Local Plant Supplier' which was voted for by garden centres, and a Highly Commended in the Ornamental Grower of the Year – one of only three nursery growers in the country to receive this honour.

The judges noted that O'Connor's nursery is 'exceptionally well-managed' and that the products are of a high quality with recent developments making it 'one of the most advanced protected crop nurseries in the country'.

Owner Jim O'Connor was praised for having an eye on the future having significantly invested in modern infrastructure.
