DANCING IN DISNEY

Congratulations and well done to Katie Stafford and Saoirse Doyle, both from Barntown, on their recent success Dancing at the "International Festival of Dance and Performing Arts" in Disneyland Paris. The girls travelled with the Sheila Grace Dancing Company to participate in this highly competitive annual event.

11 year old Katie formed part of the "Sirius" group and competed in the Junior Free Style category while Saoirse aged 14, danced with the "Rockets" in the Senior Free Style category and also the Senior Street/Hip-Hop category. As well as having 3 days entry to the Disney Parcs where they had lots and lots of laughs, the girls also danced in the I.F.D.P.A. Disney Parade down Main Street USA, watched by hundreds of onlookers.

Adding to this achievement, The Sirius & the Rocket crews were 1 of just 4 groups selected to perform at the famous "Videopolis Theatre" in Discoveryland in the Disney resort. Sporting Silver and Gold medals and 2 Team Trophies, the dance crew arrived back in Rosslare on Tuesday, to a reception of cheers and banners from quite a large group of wellwishers celebrating the dancers return and success. Thank-you to Kelly Power and Tara O'Brien for their dedication and hard work in preparing the crews for the competition. The girls are looking forward to next year already!

Assembly: Last Friday our theme for Assembly was "A Celebration of Friendship". Pupils enjoyed preparing their own special presentations in line with this theme to their fellow pupils and the staff. 6th class performed a rendition of The Beatles classic "I'll get by with a little help from my friends", while 5th class chose to recite some poetry entitled "A Recipe for a Good Friend". 3rd and 4th classes gave their own version of "Viva la Campagne" - "Friendship is Great". It was a great morning and was thoroughally enjoyed by all.

Green School: A newly elected Green School Committee, were presented with their Badges (also at Assembly). The theme for this Green Flag is ' Transport'. Committee members are; Stacy Wilde, Daragh Murphy, Ella Mc.Loughlin, Michael O'Leary, Rebecca Redmond, Andrew Beaver, Annabelle Breen, Tim Gilhooley, Lauren Long, Paul Ryan, Eva Brazzill, Stuart Vaughan, Sophie Connolly and Jack Haydon. We wish all the committee members every success over the coming year as they strive to achieve the school's 4th Green Flag.

Rackard League: The Boys Football team played a fantastic game last Thursday in Piercestown, but unfortunately lost out to the Kennedy Park team by a just 1 point. Although the lads were a little disappointed with the result, we want to assure them that we are very proud of the team and the way they played. Thanks to Mr. Tony Cleary - the dedicated coach - who helped take the boys this far in the competition.

CAMOGIE

Our senior camogie team gave their best performance of the year last Friday night when they overcame Bunclody to retain their senior status. We got off to a flying start with Aoife Shiel raising a green flag after 4 minutes. Further goals from Annette, Susie (2) Emma (2) and Aoife again saw us home comfortably enough in the end. Big thanks to Pascal and his management team.
