DEVELOPMENT LOTTO

Curracloe United AFC had no winner of their recent lotto jackpot draw held on June 6.

The numbers drawn were 1, 5, 16 & 25. There were 4 match 3 winners and each received €40, Garry Potter, Ballina; Annie Quinn, Ballyhoo; Ger Ennis, c/o C&C Providers and Mick Kavanagh, Screen.

On Sunday last, June 12 the numbers drawn were 8, 17, 18 & 23. There was no jackpot winner and 1 match 3 winner, Sean O`Reilly. Barnahask, Curracloe who received €150. Next weekends jackpot stands at €3,250 and the draw takes place in the Tavern on Sunday, June 19. Church gate collection A church gate collection was taken up recently in Screen and Curracloe with all proceeds going to REHAB. The total amount collected was €550. Grateful thanks to all who subscribed so generously.

SHELMALIER FIELD DAY

The Shelmalier GAA club would like to most sincerely thank everyone for their support at the field day held on bank holiday Monday, and for all who helped out in any way to make the day a great success.

The results of the raffle were as follows:the first prize of a weekend away in a 4 star hotel went to Ibar Murphy, Ballyhoe, Screen; second prize of a meal for 2 in Forde's Restaurant went to Richard Doyle, Newlands, Wexford; the third prize of a sports voucher went to Caoimhe Byrne, 1 Ard Alainn, Castlebridge.

GAA ACTION

The Shels senior hurlers beat St. Anne's in the league. 2-8 to 0-17, with Brian Tobin, James Gordon, Ciaran O' Shaughnessy, & Ronan Kavanagh amongst those to shine. The junior hurlers beat Duffry Rovers recently with goals from Mick Kelly (2) and Ibar Murphy aiding victory.

The Shelmaliers third hurling team defeated the Faythe Harriers 2-12 to 2-11 recently. Goals from Keith Drennan and Kieran Richardson clinching the game.

The Shels second football team met the Volunteers first team recently. The Shels conceded a late goal to put them under severe pressure in the dying minutes. However the combined play of Chris Gordon and the excellent free taking of Colin Redmond ensured they came out winners 0-13 to 1-9.

SHELS LOTTO

The numbers drawn in the Shelmalier GAA club draw were 16, 17, 23, 24. There was no jackpot winner and two match 3 winners Brendan Murphy & Kathleen Halpin.

FUN CYCLE

A pyjamas or fancy dress fun cycle will take place on Sunday next, June 19. Once your bike has two wheels and is roadworthy you can register to take part. Motorbikes, bicycles, scooters, or even Honda 50s will all be welcome. The event is in memory of Audrey McGrath and it kicks of at 1 p.m. from the Maldron Hotel. Registration takes place from noon in the hotel and costs €10. Contact Martina on 0872247413. Proceeds in aid of TLT for Cystic Fibrosis.

UNDER 10 CAMOGIE

St Ibars hosted the U10 & U12 camoige blitz on Saturday, June 4. Well done to the U10 girls as they showed great camoige skills in all four games against Kilmore, St Martins A, St Martins B and St Mary's, Rosslare. This was the last of the blitz which has given the girls an equal opportunity to try their skills in the different positions of the field.

The U10 team consisted of Ailis Neville, Aine Fitzgerald, Alison Doyle, Becky Halligan, Catie Byrne, Sarah Whelan, Hannah Hearne, Caitlin Carroll, Ella Quaid, Aoife Doyle, Nicole Pierce, Abbie Devereux, Andrea Fielding, Amy O'Connor and Keeva Campbell. The girls were managed by John Banville and Patricia Fielding.

A big thank you to all the committe members, parents, and team mentors who helped make the morning such a success. Unfortunately, due to bad weather the U10 mini league match was cancelled on Sunday, June 12. and will be rearranged with all being notified at training.

Training continues every Monday evening, 6.15 - 7.15 p.m for U8 & U10; U12`s train every Monday & Wednesday evening from 6.30 - 7.30 p.m.

CAMOGIE MINI LEAGUES

An U12 Premier mini league competition match takes place on Wednesday, June 15 at 6.30 p.m in Glynn against the home side. An U10 mini league competiton will see St. Martins B play St Ibars/Shels on June 25; Rosslare v St Ibars/Shels on July 2; St Ibars/Shels v St Martins A on July 9 and St Ibars/Shels v Faythe Harriers on July 23.

TAEKWONDO

Congratulations to the following students of John and Linda Philips who were successful at the recent grading in Blackwater hall, Susan Birney Gossage (yellow belt) Barry Cloake, Riley Kohl, Cillian Corcoran (green belt) Conor Furlong (blue belt) Alex Denby (purple belt) Jordan Rossiter, Aaron Rossiter (high brown belt ) Taekwondo classes are held in Castlebridge hall on Mondays and Thursdays at 4.30 and on Saturday mornings at 1.30 p.m. New members are welcome.

WEIGH LIGHTER

Weigh lighter classes take place in Castlebridge community centre every Thursday. Weigh in starts at 7 p.m with a talk afterwards at 7.30 p.m. For more information contact Francis Whelan.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Well done to Peter Doyle, Castlebridge, winner of a bronze medal in the under 14 Hurdles at the County Community Games athletic finals held in Craanford on Saturday last. Gemma Corrigan from Screen finished 3rd in her heat of the 100M under 10 but finished outside of the medal placings in the final.

Nicole Harding-Kenny from Curracloe gave a great performance coming in first in her heat of the 60M under 8 event and leaving everyone behind her in the final to claim the precious gold medal. Nicole is now off to Athlone in August for the national finals. Marcella Furlong from Crosstown finished in second place in the under 16 Discus final.

CHARITY SWIM

If you would like to have a long or short swim in Curracloe watch out for the charity swim which will take place there on Sunday, July 2. There is a short swim and a long swim. The long swim is approximately 1 mile. Entry fee is €25 which includes refreshments in Hotel Curacloe after the swim. SCREEN SCHOOL NEWS

Weather permitting, the annual sports day will take place on Wednesday, June 22. It will begin with a concert in the school hall and the sports will follow. Volunteers will be required on the day.

School photographs will be organised in September/October of this year.

The Parents Council held a meeting on Thursday, June 2. Thanks were extended to all who helped with the First Holy Communion and the uniform committee for all their hard work.

It is hoped to purchase new laptops and storage units very soon. The new notice board and suggestion box will be erected this week.

Congratulations to the 26 new pupils who graduated from their Headstart Programme on Wednesday, June 1. They will be welcomed into Junior infants in September. With this number starting, the school will hopefully qualify for an additional teacher in September 2012.

The last 'ladies night' of the school year will be held on Friday,June 17 in the Vine restaurant at 8 p.m. All are welcome. Contact Mags or Rebecca for further details.

SCREEN STREET PARTY

The annual Screen street party will take place on Sunday, July 10 and the committee are guaranteeing a great day out for all family members. The official opening will be performed by the Wexford Camogie All-Ireland champions.

A Spud Nua competition, open to all enthusiastic back garden spud growers will be held and entries must be in by July 4. Entry fee here is €10. For details and bookings contact 087-6785113. The party will begin at 2 p.m and continue till late. Entry to the party is €5 for aduls and kids are free up to and including secondary school teens.

There will be an outdoor bandstand with 10 different live bands all day/night with street comedy by Madcaps and many more entertainment acts as well. There will be a full outdoor bar, BBQ, and kids activities of all types in the school grounds. If you can give an hours help with supervision for the children please contact Mags.

There will be 10 different classes in a dog show, a mini digger challenge, duck race, inter-pub tug of war and lots more. There will also be a raffle with a top prize of €500 sponsored by Phelim Byrne. The evening will conclude with `beat on the street` live bands and a disco.

There is free local pick up and reduced fare on return by KDK Cabs. All proceeds to St. Vincent de Paul which specifically helps local needs and Screen national school. ACTING WORKSHOP

Bridge Drama group in conjunction with The Arts Council and the Drama league of Ireland will hold an acting workshop in the community centre, Castlebridge, on Friday (evening) August 26 and Saturday (all day) August 27. CASTLEBRIDGE SCHOOL

Five representatives from the school had a great time at the International Blue Flag ceremony held in Curracloe on Thursday last. They managed to get a photo opportunity with Minister Phil Hogan.

Miss Dempsey and Mr. Brown`s classes travelled to the cinema in New Ross on Tuesday to participate in the County Wexford Education centre's Film festival. Both classes have written, starred in and produced the films and this was done over a 6 month period. Mr. Brown's class film is called 'Roll the Die' which is a murder mystery. Miss Dempsey's class film is called 'Oscar Night'.

First and second class had their school tour on Tuesday of last week visiting New Ross playground and John F Kennedy Park.

WALKING CLUB

Information on the Shelmalier Walking club activities can be obtained from www.shelmaliers.ie. The club will host a walking leadership course on June 21/24/25 at the GAA complex in Hollymount and the course will be directed by members of the Irish Heart Foundation and sponsored by Wexford Sports Active.
