Proud mums pass their exams

Three Wexford mothers who went back to part time education qualified from their FETAC/QI General Learning course, and had their major awards presented to them at the Riverbank House hotel recently.

Maura Ratigan, Margaret Ryan and Suzanne Power Cortez did not complete their Leaving Certificate examinations at school leaving age, but with their children now grown up or gone to school they each decided to catch up on some of the subjects they had missed out on in their teens.

The General Learning course covered subjects from Computers and IT, Nutrition, Photography, Communications and Cooking.

Maura who now looks after three of her five grandchildren full time said the course ran for one day a week over six years and gave her qualifications she felt she had missed out on.

'A major award means we had to do well in exams for eight modules out of a total of 16 modules,' she said.
