Santa Claus received a tumultuous welcome at the Riverside Park in Enniscorthy as Down Syndrome Wexford staged a memorable Christmas party.
Almost 50 members of the organisation were joined by their families for the occasion, making for a total of around 200 party goers in the hotel.
The attendance included four new members as people arrived from all corners of the county to enjoy the fun for the afternoon.
Entertainer Liam Sharkey presided at the turntable, calling up characters from Bob the Builder to Disneyland to assist in the jollifications.
On the sidelines, balloon modelling and face painting added to the gaiety of the occasion before Santa Claus arrived with his sackful of goodies.
The One Direction CD's and merchandise in his sack were very much in demand , reflecting the good taste of modern youth, reported Down Syndrome Wexford chairwoman Petrina Gleeson from Castlebridge.
The organisation loves to let the hair down a couple of times a year with parties at Christmas and Easter time, as well as running a programme of summer activities.
However Ms. Gleeson explained that most of the money collected at church gates and through other fundraisers is channelled into services that are generally not readily available from the State.
These include speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychological intervention and behavioural therapy as well as training for parents, teachers and special needs assistants.
'We are very focused on what the members need and on bringing that to their doorsteps,' explained Petrina Gleeson after the party was over.
