Meek Wexford exit National League with another defeat

Wexford limped out of contention in Division 1 of the National Camogie League with defeat to Offaly in Birr on Sunday afternoon.

Offaly 1-12 Wexford 0-13

The Slaneysiders have now lost three of their last four games and only finished ahead of Dublin in last place in Group 1 on points difference.

 

Offaly played with the breeze in the first half and were already leading 0-7 to 0-4 when Arlene Watkins hauled Debbie Flynn's long ball and flashed past Laura Brennan to the net.

 

Wexford trailed 1-9 to 0-4 at half time and were still eight points in arrears after the first ten minutes of the second half.

 

Eventually th visitors caught fire, scoring six points in a row to close the gap to two. The Offaly lead wasdown to one when Shelley Kehoe pointed two minutes from time but the hosts held on for victory.

 

Wexford return to action with a home semi-final in the Leinster Championship against Kilkenny on May 22.
