190 years of babies later...
A BIG celebration took place at the Ferrycarrig Hotel recently as staff of Wexford General Hospital bid farewell to five long-serving midwives following their retirement, in a party that was attended by family friends and colleagues.
The five women, Catherine Howard, Geraldine O'donoghue, Anne O'neill, Marion Shannon and Mary Flynn, decided to call it a day after serving a combined total of nearly 190 years and having overseen the birth of an estimated
2,000 babies between them.
Of the five midwife positions to have been vacated by the ladies, Wexford General Hospital has recently received approval to fill three, two of which have already been filled and one which is in the process of being filled in a bid to maintain the exceptional standards of care which the five women are leaving behind.
