€3 million for new local authority houses in Taghmon

By Maria Pepper

More than €3 million in Government funding has been approved for the building of 18 new local authority houses in Taghmon.

The allocation of €3,303,402 was announced by the Department of Housing Planning, Community and Local Government and welcomed by Junior Defence Minister Paul Kehoe.

Deputy Kehoe said the houses are badly needed in the area and are part of a bigger picture of local authority housing development in Wexford.

'This announcement follows the news last month of Stage 1 approval for 14 units at a cost of €2.65 million in Carricklawn and Coolcotts and funding approval for 10 'turn-key' units in Ballyboggan, Castlebridge under the Capital Advance Leasing Facility'.

'There is huge pressure on housing resources and these units are part of a strategy to ensure that everyone in Wexford has access to a home,' said the Fine Gael TD.

'I am working closely with the Council and the Department to ensure that we continue to increase housing availability across Wexford,; he added.
