Absence of speed vans criticised

Cllr Joe Ryan has criticised what he's called an 'absence' of speed vans around Wexford town at a recent JPC meeting.

He said that while the Newline Road is listed as an area where speed vans could be placed, he has yet to see one there.

Similarly he highlighted Whiterock Hill, particularly around the Gaelscoil, and the approach roads into Castlebridge as being areas which could benefit from speed vans.

'Basically I was just wondering if there was any plans to re-position speed vans around town a bit more,' Cllr Ryan questioned. 'I think they need to be in these areas just for their value as a deterrent. Particularly near the roundabout in Distillery Road, for example.'

Supt Pat Conlon said that the Newline Road is 'a priority location' for speed vans at the moment. He said, however, if Cllr Ryan had any concerns relating to particular areas he should contact the Sergeant at Wexford Garda Station and members of the Garda Traffic Corps could be sent out.
