All Ireland Tug of War contest pulls big crowd
OVER 500 SPECTATORS gathered in Ballycullane on Sunday afternoon to witnesses a great day's tug-of-war action as the Saltmills Tug of War Club hosted the national 720kg championship.
Held on lands, kindly given for the day by the Slator Family, there was a good turnout of teams in Kinnagh to compete for the national titles.
Mayo team Lakehill won the Senior 720kg with a victory over local team, Boley, while Killylough from Co. Monaghan defeated Louth team Mountain View to win the bronze medal.
In the Division 2 final Donoughmore from Co. Cork defeated the Wexford men from the Slaneysiders team.
The hosting club Saltmills emerged victorious in the 720kg novice championship clinching the title against Killoughey from Co. Offaly in the final. Cork team Cuan Rithe returned home with a bronze medal and in fourth place were The Mill from Co. Tipperary.
In the Under-23 championship Clonmines secured the gold medal winning out over Killoughney from Co. Offaly and in the Youth 6-a-side league Ballinagh from Co. Cavan came in first place, followed in second place by Rockies from Co. Cavan and in third place was Killoughey from Co. Offaly.
