GARDAÍ are investigating an alleged rape of a woman at Mooney’s on the Quay in Wexford.

Chief Superintendent John Roche said the woman was found in the toilets at the pub and he has appealed to anyone who saw anything suspicious there on the night of Friday, June 3, to come forward.

The woman was found in a distressed state, but superintendent said he could not comment on reports that she was attacked after allegedly being given a date rape drug.

‘She was found in the toilets at Mooney’s and was taken to Wexford Hospital where she received treatment,’ he said.

‘We are taking witness statements and would like to hear from anyone who was in Mooney’s on the night of Friday, June 3, into the Saturday morning,’ said Superintendent Roche.

Details of the alleged rape have only just been made public.
