Angela is the first woman in town clerk job
Wexford's new Town Clerk is Angela Laffan, the first woman to hold the position in the history of the borough.
Ms Laffan has been appointed to the job to succeed Pat Collins who is leaving to become Wexford County Secretary.
Mr Collins, who was appointed Town Clerk in 2002, will fill the vacancy left by the county secretary Niall McDonnell, who retires on October 25.
Ms Laffan, a native of Wexford, has been finance officer at Wexford Borough Council for more than a decade, a position also previously held by Mr Collins.
In her earlier local authority career she worked with Wexford County Council and was later involved in the administration of Wexford's main drainage scheme, which took several years to complete.
In recent years, she has served as acting town clerk on occasions.
Mr Collins, also a Wexford native, has worked in local government for the past 35 years.
In addition to his new post as County Secretary he takes on the role of co-ordinator for the integration of county and town councils under impending public service reforms.
