Another close call for Apprentice contestant

Wednesday October 01 2008

WEXFORD'S RONAN Whitty had another close call on 'The Apprentice' on Monday night.

He found himself on the chopping block for the second time in as many weeks. This week Ronan (27), led Team Dynamo (the boys' team), but when they lost to Team Phoenix (the girls' team) for the second time, Ronan once again found himself one of the three men sitting before Apprentice boss Bill Cullen.

Both Team Dynamo (the boys' team) and Team Phoenix (the girls' team) were asked to launch a new computer game for EA, by organising a publicity event in Dublin.

After a successful launch night Team Phoenix were deemed the winners of the task, claiming the top spot for the second week in a row.

Derek Ramsey from Donegal was fired after team leader Ronan chose to bring him and Dubliner Mark O'Rourke back into the boardroom with him. Mark, when team leader, had brought Ronan in with him the previous week.

However, both survived to fight again next week, though with the warning from Bill Cullen that they will be in serious trouble if they end up before him in the boardroom a third time ringing in their ears.

Ronan Whitty, a systems analyst now working with Ryanair, is one of the Whitty family of Whitford House Hotel fame and had cut his business teeth working in all aspects of the family trade before pursuing an MBS in strategic management planning.
