Aoife Byrne criticises IFA Executive

Fianna Fail's Aoife Byrne has slammed the recent decision of the IFA's Executive Council not to remove the Executive Board at this week's meeting.
Ms Byrne said: 'Farm families in Co Wexford have been horrified at the continuing revelations surrounding the salaries and pension arrangements that have come into the public arena for former General Secretary Pat Smith and past Presidents. With the average family farm income in any year only a fraction of the €500,000 per year plus paid to Mr Smith in three of his seven years at the head of IFA, the horror and indignation of the farming community is palpable.
'I come from a farming family in south Wexford and I feel deeply troubled that IFA has found itself in this precarious state. The failure to move decisively this week will only prolong the difficulties as prospective Presidents jockey for position in their own electoral contest in the spring of 2016. Just who will hold the current government to task?'
