Arrests as probe into alleged extortion continues
GARDAÍ investigating recent reports of false imprisonment, blackmail, and criminal damage arrested four people last week.
The two men and two women, all aged from 25 to 48, were brought in for questioning in relation to the incidents which occurred in Gorey between January 25 and February 3.
The four people were arrested in Gorey and Enniscorthy on Tuesday morning, March 1, at approximately 8.30 a.m. Three of those arrested, two men and one woman, were detained at Enniscorthy and Wexford Garda stations under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 to 1998 as amended. The fourth person, a woman aged 48 years, was detained at Gorey Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
They were all later released from Garda custody without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Last month, businessman Lorcan Byrne said his son was kidnapped, and his business targeted with a petrol bomb, in a failed extortion attempt.
