Dublin author Dermot Bolger captured the imaginations of a large audience in Wexford Library for a reading of his spellbinding novel 'The Lonely Sea and Sky'.

The novel is based on the tale of a real-life rescue in 1943 when a group of Wexford sailors on board the MV Kerlogue risked their lives to save 168 German sailors. It tells the tale from the perspective of young Jack Roche, who sets off from Wexford Quay on his inaugural journey not long after the death of his father on a similar voyage.

The audience enjoyed an emotive reading from the author before pitching their questions about the story to Dermot.
