Aviation centenary

THE CENTENARY of a famous breakthrough in aviation will be marked at Wexford Arts Centre on Thursday, April 26, at 8 p.m. A play entitled 100 Minutes by Derek Webb will celebrate the day 100 years ago when a flimsy Bleriot X1 aeroplane left a field in Goodwick, Pembrokeshire, and 100 minutes later arrived in Enniscorthy.

It was the first ever flight from Britain to Ireland and the pilot was Denys Corbett Wilson, who was subsequently killed in action flying with the Royal Air Corps in France in May 1915.

Webb's play celebrates Wilson's aviation achievement and his life.
