Band's Meteor surprise
AN UP-AND-coming Wexford band were among the nominees for a coveted 'Meteor Award'. 'Flying Columns', the four-piece alternative indie group, were shortlisted in the 'Most Promising Band for 2010'.
'Flying Columns' are a made up of Piercestown lads Michael D'Arcy (lead singer) and Paul Reade (bass) along with drummer Michael Sutherland from Murrintown and Glynn's Richie O'Donnell on lead guitar.
The band formed three years ago while still in school and now the college-going rockers gig on weekends around Wexford and in the capital.
According to Paul Reade they were 'surprised' but delighted to be shortlisted for the Meteor award. 'We're apparently ones to watch,' he said.
Though Flying Columns were not in the final shakeup for an award, Wexford did well at the Meteors, with Ballymurn's Wallis Bird winning the Best Irish Female category, and Leigh Doyle, from Wexford town, voted Best Regional DJ for his work on Beat FM.
