NUMEROUS cars were broken into at scenic locations across South West Wexford over recent days, leading Gardaí to issue an alert to motorists not to leave any valuables anywhere in their vehicles.
Cars were broken into in Bannow, Baginbun and in the Fethard on Sea area over recent weekends, causing great distress to their owners.
A Garda spokesperson said someone was apprehended for similar crimes last year but the problem has re-emerged.
'People go to a nice picture postcard perfect beach and you have these people driving around looking for Satnavs and cameras. We would urge people not to leave any valuables in their cars. They can't leave any temptation for thieves.'
The spokesperson said several foreign visitors have returned to find their cars broken into. 'It leaves a bad taste in the mouth. We have a very good crime victim service specifically for tourists, helping them if their travel documents have been stolen.'
