A new Wexford nightclub offering punters a private party room with three king-sized beds has sparked a letter of complaint to the gardai, the vintners association and the Council.
An advertisement appeared in local newspapers last week, announcing the imminent opening of The Music Factory nightclub in Whites Hotel with the bedroom' listed as one of the attractions.
It was described as a luxury room with a private bar and three king-sized beds and can be hired for parties.
The ad prompted one deeply concerned citizen' to write a letter of objection to the proprietor as well as Wexford Garda Station, Wexford County Council and the chairman of the Vintners' Federation.
I am concerned thtat the beds are being used as an advertising gimmick and their purpose will be misinterpreted by the alcohol-fuelled clientele,' said the letter.
I find the idea of a bedroom' in a public house/nightclub to be rather disgusting and I can only assume it will be used with immoral intention.'
The objector called on the owner to re-think his plan and remove the beds, adding that perhaps a VIP room with tables and chairs would be more practical'.
However, Peter May, the promoter of the new nightclub opening on May 24 has no intention of changing the design of the premises.
The Philippe Starck beds - oval shaped in buttoned white leather- are designed for lounging around and relaxing, not for any other activity, he said.
The room which will also feature floating tables, is designed to accommodate up to 60 people. Overlooking the dance floor, it will 8 ft high glass walls, allowing people to see in and out.
Mr. May who has been involved in nightclubs in Dublin and Cork tipped The Magic Factory to be one of the best nightclubs in Ireland' when it opens.
He said the club will have an even more spectacular VIP room than the bedroom - a glass box suspended over the dance floor with a private fridge and X Box 360.
It will accommodate 20 people and will have the best views in the house,' he said.
