Best of Wexford business honoured
THE BEST of Wexford business was celebrated last Friday night as over 420 business people from across the Model County gathered in White's Hotel for the third annual Wexford Business Awards.
The awards paid honour to those local businesses who excel in their irrespective industries and who represent the talent, innovation, entrepreneurialism needed to succeed in today's challenging environment.
The gala awards ceremony opened with a video message from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny who congratulated the 62 finalists and paid tribute to their ' hard work and achievements to date'. Mr Kenny later added that each of the finalists had demonstrated 'remarkable vision, self-confidence and commitment'.
There were a record number of entries this awards one of the most competitive ever held in Wexford. Shortlisted finalists ranged from start-ups to family businesses and well-known companies including retailers, manufacturers, training providers and tourism operators.
The winners in all 14 categories were announced last Friday night, in addition to the overall Wexford Business of the Year Award, which was won by The Griffin Group, who also won the Wexford Tourism Award.
Michael Kinsella, Chairman of Wexford County Council, who sponsored the overall award, the Griffin Group was chosen for this accolade as ' they truly represent the core attributes of the awards - entrepreneurialism, talent, innovation and diversity'.
'It is a great honour to be recognised in your home county and we are truly humbled to receive this award,' said Liam Griffin, Managing Director of the Griffin Group.
During the awards ceremony a keynote address was delivered by Tom Savage, Director, of The Communications Clinic and Chairman of RTE. Mr Savage spoke about the importance of good values being visible in leaders if they are to inspire staff to achieve business goals.
A number of businesses took home a haul of awards, including ABT Medical, who won three awards - the International Export Award, the Research and Development Award and the Emerging New Business Award.
RDA Accountants also picked up two awards; the Service Provider Award and the Employer of the Year Award. Other notable success stories at the awards included Rworks, who were highly commended in two categories.
Wexford County Enterprise Board awarded their Small Business Award to Softouch Technologies, specialists in database development and business management systems. Softouch Technologies will go forward to represent county Wexford at the National Enterprise Awards, which take place in November.
'All of the award winners and indeed highly commended runner up nominees have demonstrated something really special - that is passion and determination,' said Madeleine Quirke, CEO of Wexford Chamber.
'It is these qualities that have enabled many Wexford businesses to stand out from the crowd, to innovate and outperform in very tough market conditions. Despite the challenges the evidence is very clear Wexford is home to businesses who know how to adapt and thrive,' said Ms Quirke.
