Wexford Vocational College launched its second book of short stories and poems, 'Waves of Words', under the guidance of Billy Roche this month.
The book, funded by Poetry Ireland and the JCSP (Junior Certificate School Programme) Demonstration Library Project, is the culmination of creative writing workshops with Billy Roche and illustrations and typesetting from PLC students studying a graphic design course at the college.
Billy commended the college on the high quality of the final publication and Jane O'Hanlon, education officer at Poetry Ireland, subsequently described the book as 'terrific'.
To a proud audience of parents, teaching staff and invited guests, the third year students were also presented with their JCSP profiles, a record of their achievements over the past three years covering both academic subjects and cross curricular activities.
Principal Eimear Ryan, JCSP co-ordinator Marie Prendergast and JCSP librarian Lee Dickerson all congratulated the students on their successful completion of the Junior Cycle and wished them well in their forthcoming exams, while two special guests, Rhianna Jarrett and Lee Chin, past pupils at the college, encouraged the students to follow their dreams.
