Blackwater plans get the thumbs-down

Wednesday February 01 2012

A SERIES of applications from Blackwater have failed to find favour with planning officials.

The local authority ruled against proposals by Kevin O'leary and Alison Wooder for a site near to the coast at Ballydrishoge in Blackwater.

The applicants gave their address as Ballinahask, Kilmuckridge. And they were supported by a letter from landowner Mary Kavanagh indicating that she was fully aware of the move.

In their response, the planners pointed out that it is the policy of the local authority to cater for the housing needs of the immediate family members of land owners. They had no reason to believe that O'leary and Ms. Wooder are immediately related to Mary Kavanagh.

They also felt that the site chosen is exposed and any house there would be 'visually obtrusive'.

Bernard Buckley with an address in Walthamstow, London, found himself on the wrong side of the planning department with his suggestions for improvements to a cottage at Inch, Blackwater, on the south side of the village.

He looked to demolish a flat-roofed extension and replace it with a new construction. The drawings prepared by O'leary Surveying of Broadway showed a two-storey building. Council officials felt the suggested replacement was too big, too high and too close to neighbouring properties.

Matt Furey failed in his attempt to persuade Wexford County Council that his house at Ballyconnigar Lower near Blackwater should be allowed remain as he has built it. Officials were concerned that it was built higher than indicated in the planning permission granted in 2004.

They also felt that the decking area around the building was 'inappropriate', mainly because it was raised up to within 16 inches of the top of the boundary wall.

In a letter, neighbours complained that this arrangement left them with virtually no privacy. The application for retention was turned down.
