Thirty four kayaks and a trailer were stolen from Sheilbaggan Outdoor Education Centre in the early hours of Monday morning.

Worth more than €25,000, the blue and white and green and white kayaks, and the trailer, were taken between midnight and 7 a.m. when thieves dug up the gates of the activity centre.

Instructor Emer Murphy said: ‘A big stock of the kayaks were stolen from the centre. It was very annoying to see this first thing this morning. The gates were pulled out of the ground.’

Ms Murphy said CCTV is being studied, adding that she hopes someone will see the kayaks and alert Gardaí.

She said the premises was burgled before, but it is not believed that the two incidents are linked.

A Garda spokesperson said the kayaks and trailer are worth more than €25,000.

The spokesperson said Gardaí can be contacted at 051 426030.
