Bressie awards Grace with national prize for showing good spirit
Presentation student Grace Ferrick was sure to be in high spirits when she was presented with a Pramerica Spirit of Community Award by none other than Irish music star Bressie.
The sixth year student from Curracloe received €500 and a silver medallion in honour of the hours of volunteer work that she has undertaken in her local community She was one of 20 students who received an award at the ceremony in Lough Eske Castle Hotel and Spa in Donegal.
Grace has dedicated her spare time to volunteering for her local Special Olympics Club and her school's mental health awareness team, which she helped to co-found in 2014. She also supports the Cycle Against Suicide initiative as a student ambassador and organises many events in the school to raise awareness of mental health.
Speaking in light of Grace's win, Deputy Principal of Presentation College Mary Dooley said: 'Grace is a unique young lady, one with a giving spirit who will no doubt endeavour to influence and improve the lives of others for years post her graduation in May 2016. We will miss Grace's zeal and light but like Nano Nagle, our foundress, she will continue to light the flame in others.'
This year marked the tenth Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards, which programme recognises young people for their motivation, service and impact on their local community across the island of Ireland.
