Brooklyn picks up three Oscar nominations including Best Film

Enniscorthy will be front and centre at this year's Academy Awards on February 28 with hit film Brooklyn picking up three nominations.

Saoirse Ronan is nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Eilis Lacey while Brooklyn was nominated for Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The 21-year-old Carlow actress will be facing competition from recent Golden Globe winner Brie Larson (Room), Cate Blanchett (Carol), Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) and Charlotte Rampling (45 Years) It marks Saoirse's second Oscar nomination. In 2008 she was among the youngest ever nominees when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Atonement at the age of 13 years.

Brooklyn is facing competition from The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight for Best Picture.

In the Best Adapted Screenplay category Brooklyn will be facing off against The Big Short, Carol, The Martian and Room.
