Bullring company lands €3.4 billion deal
THE announcement of €3.4 billion of business for Rory O'Connor's Wexford start-up Scurri will be a catalyst for further major deals and more local jobs, he said.
Scurri won the deal with Fastway Couriers and Parcel Connect last week which will see its technology facilitate the delivery of more than €3.4bn worth of merchandise for companies like Littlewoods Ireland, ASOS, Boohoo and MissGuided over the next five years. The deal will see Scurri providing barcode labelling technology to more than 15,000 Fastway customers. Scurri will also provide technical support and development services for the business, including the innovative Parcel Connect Platform.
Scurri is a cloud-based fulfilment platform that easily integrates parcel carriers and merchants, quickly and cost effectively.
Mr O'Connor said: 'It's a massive amount of business, some 50 million individual transactions, with a value of $3.4bn.'
Having launched in Duncannon Fort in November 2011, Mr O'Connor had a team of three within one year but this grew to a team of 23 people today, 12 of whom are based in the Innovate building in The Bullring, Wexford, with another 11 working across Europe.
Mr O'Connor said this latest deal has boosted employee numbers, with five of his staff working full time on this project, with more staff working part time.
The father-of-four, who is married to Jospehine, said his phone has been hopping every since the deal was announced.
'Already we have had calls on the back of the announcement. Customers who hadn't heard of us before the deal are now looking at us. They see that we can deal with companies like Amazon and Zara and then the momentum builds. This is only part of our business. It's a major deal but we've recently signed a major deal in America and we are in negotiations with companies in New Zealand, Australia and other European countries.'
He said the reason more and more companies are turning to Scurri is the agility with which it can do business and its customer service.
'Our cutting edge software development process delivers code on a daily basis and can facilitate change and our customer service means we provide proper support and can deal with problems over the phone.'
Mr O'Connor said: 'We don't have a direct competitor in terms of major e-commerce merchants. We have between 50 per cent and 60 per cent of major companies. This deal positions Scurri at the leading edge of delivery technology and is a great example of how we make delivery simple through technology.'
