Carnsore crew are now power boat prepared
CARNSORE'S Coast Guards will be well prepared if, as hoped, they get a boat in the near future. The Carnsore crew recently underwent power boat training at Carne under the guidance of instructor Colm Purcell.
Assumpta Carthy, a member of the 15-strong Carne crew, said the training was aimed towards the day when they eventually get a boat to assist with their Coast Guard duties.
She pointed out that while boats are primarily available for Coast Guard units in the west of Ireland at the moment, this is expected to change soon and the Carnsore unit want to be ready when it happens, putting them at the top of the queue.
The recent training took place over two weekends and the Carnsore Coast Guard unit, most of whom already had boating experience, will be taking an advanced course in the summer, to further enhance their qualifications.
The Carnsore Coast Guards received their Power Boating Certificates last week at the Community Centre in Our Lady's Island.
