Baker Declan Dempsey gave a bakery demonstration in Castlebridge community hall on Wednesday evening as part of the 75th Castlebridge Show.

Super Valu baker and local resident Declan Dempsey cooked up a delightful feast for a host of bakers who attended his special baking demonstration recently.

The event, which was attended by over 50 bakers, took place in the Castlebridge Community Centre as part of the 75th anniversary programme of the Castlebridge Horticultural Show. With the demonstration, organisers hoped to promote the idea of home baking, as well as revive many of the old recipes used by local bakers from the 1940's. Show Chairperson Jimmy Nolan also used the event as an opportunity to invite guests to take part in an upcoming baking competition, which will take place in Castlebridge on August 9 as part of the agricultural show.

Declan prepared a wide array of baked goods on the night, including traditional favourites such as brown and white soda breads, boiled ginger cake, scones, queen cakes and bread and butter pudding. He was assisted by local bread maker Colm Flanagan, who shared many of his own baking secrets with his guests.
