CCTV footage destroyed during Garda station flood

Wednesday March 10 2010

CCTV footage which formed part of the State's case against a man charged with theft at Rosslare Harbour has been destroyed in a flood.

Patrick Kennedy (28), of no fixed abode, is charged with theft at Gouldson's Pharmacy, Rosslare Harbour, on July 26, 2009.

He is further charged with causing criminal damage by breaking a glass panel in a door at Wexford Garda Station on October 7, 2009.

Ed King, for Kennedy, told Wexford District Court he still hadn't received a copy of the CCTV footage pertaining to the alleged theft in Rosslare Harbour.

Judge William Early heard that prosecuting Garda Jason Lynch has since been transferred from Wexford Garda Station to Bandon Garda Station.

Garda Lynch had brought the CCTV footage with him and it was destroyed in the serious flooding that struck Cork and many other parts of the country late last year. Inspector Pat McDonald said the Gardaí still had stills from the footage, which will be provided to Mr King.

Mr King informed Judge Early that his client would be contesting both charges. The case was adjourned until May 17 next.
