Wexford County Council CEO Tom Enright defended the Gateway and JobBridge schemes, after Cllr Deirdre Wadding criticised the local authority for using them and called for them to be examined.
Mr Enright said the schemes were applied correctly across the country save for on a small number of occasions. He said places like Wexford County Council will lose out now that they are likely to be disbanded, pointing out that people gained experience on the schemes in the council's outdoor works section. 'They provided people with an option to get back into the workforce as we strengthen our recruitment of outdoor workers, as we will be doing this summer. It's a shame that it's being done away with.'
