The life of a Wexford toddler who died tragically in 2012 will be remembered in an uplifting memorial walk in his name at John F Kennedy Park on June 28 at 11am.

Shane from Horeswood was the son of Vanessa and John Mehigan. He died after a brave battle with cancer in 2012 aged just 2 years old.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2011 when he was just 14 months old. He had a successful surgery in May 2011, but picked up an infection and required a second operation the week afterwards.

The tumours returned and he required a third operation in October 2011. He had an MRI scan in February 2012 which showed he had tumours, three of which were inoperable.

Vanessa said the couple wanted to remember Shane and also raise money for various charities. This year they decided to donate the money from the Remember Shane 5km walk or run to Temple Street Hospital. Last year proceeds from the inaugural event were donated to Barretstown.

Describing Shane as a child who was full of fun and mischief, Vanessa said both she and John wanted to do something for Temple Street Hospital. You can register for the walk at for €15 and children go free and it promises to be a fun event for all the family.
