The high number of chimney fires within the county was a cause of concern for Cllr Jim Moore last week.
Cllr Moore said there had been a 25 per cent increase in chimney fire call outs last year. He also wondered if it were possible to determine if the calls were coming from private houses or local authority stock. He said that insurance companies are worried.
Director of Services Tony Larkin said that the level of chimney fires tend to rise and fall. However he said it would be a complex issues to separate out the calls between private and local authority stock because it were possible that houses in local authority estates could be bought out.
