The Christmas countdown is now well and truly underway as the schedule for Wexford Winterland was officially launched last week.

Excitement is already building in the town for the 40 day extravaganza of festivities and events. Things will kick off on November 28 at 5 p.m. when a Christmas parade will commence from Selskar Square. The parade will proceed out on to the Quay where the Christmas lights will be officially switched on by Santa. Special guests this year will include Scrooge and Bosco and rumour has it that they will join Santa on stage for the ceremony.

There will be several new features to this year's programme including a full-sized Santa Train that will run along the public road. It's sure to be particularly popular with children who can enjoy the sights of Wexford while listening to stories from Santa.

Of course, all of the old favourites will be making a comeback too. The Bullring Christmas Market promises to be a hive of activity with plenty of local crafts on offer, while the outdoor cinema in the Bullring is sure to prove popular. Always one of the highlights of the festival, Wexford on Ice will also be returning to the town.

The festive feeling will be carried throughout the town with piped music along the Main Street and Christmas trees in the Bullring and Redmond Square.
