Two people have been arrested at Rosslare Europort after customs officers seized 66,100 cigarettes.

The cigarettes were discovered on Wednesday when revenue officers stopped and searched an Irish registered Volve SUV following routine profiling.

The Volvo was stopped and searched as it disembarked a ferry from France.

The Kent branded cigarettes were found concealed in the floor area of the vehicle and have a retail value of €33,600, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €26,800.

The Volvo SUV was also seized by officers.

A Romanian man and woman, both in their 20s, were arrested at the scene.  A file is being prepared for the DPP.
