Clerical shake up as several priests moving parishes

The diocese of Ferns is facing a shake up with the announcement of a myriad of clerical changes by Bishop Denis Brennan.

Last Thursday Bishop Brennan announced that he was making a number of changes to various parishes effective from August 8.

Fr Thomas Doyle, the current parish priest of Craanford will retire while Fr Richard Lawless, the current administrator of St Aidan's Cathedral in Enniscorthy will move to Craanford as parish priest.

His former post at St Aidan's Cathedral will be taken by Fr. Odhran Furlong, the current curate in Rathgarogue.

Newbawn parish priest, Fr Jim Furlong, will retire with Fr. James Moynihan, the current curate in Murrintown, taking the reins.

Fr Denis Kelly, the current administrator of Screen and Curracloe will move to Castlebridge as parish priest following the death of Fr. Walter Forde while Fr Sean Devereux, who is currently in The Gambia, will move to Cushinstown as parish priest. He is taking over from Fr. Martin Doyle who has left the priesthood.

Curate in Rosslare Fr James Murphy will now take over as administrator of Rosslare.

Fr Michael Byrne, curate in Boolavogue, will retire on health grounds and Fr Dermot Gahan, the current curate at Ballaghkeen, will move to Boolavogue as curate.

Fr Brian Whelan, curate in Wexford, will take on a chaplaincy to the Royal Marines while Fr James Cullen, curate in Clonard, will move as curate to Wexford.

Fr Matthias Glynn, parish priest in Tagoat will move to the Diocesan Chapter with the title Canon, effective immediately.
