A plaque to commemorate the life of sculptor Peter Hodnett should be erected at the Lockout Gate in the Faythe.
Cllr Davy Hynes laid down a notice of motion at last Monday's meeting of the Wexford Borough Municipal District that the council 'erect a plaque to Peter Hodnett at the Lockout Gate at the Faythe in Wexford town'.
He said Mr Hodnett had also sculpted the Eternal Flame in New Ross and said that 'he would have went on to do a lot more only for his untimely death'. He said he felt it would be fitting to put plaque to recognise his work.
He was supported by Cllr George Lawlor who went a step further and suggested that they write to the County Council suggesting something similar be done in New Ross at the Eternal Flame.
However Mayor Ger Carthy said that the New Ross councillors mightn't be happy with that suggestion.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding was having none of that saying that she 'didn't see why the New Ross councillors would take offence'.
Cllr Jim Moore said it would be a great way to celebrate the work of a very fine artist.
