Community saddened by sudden death of school teacher Ann

Wednesday November 11 2009

THE DEATH of well known Wexford school teacher, Ann Keating has caused tremendous sadness across the local community.

A former primary school teacher in St. John of God National School, the Faythe, Ann sadly died peacefully at her residence in Crosstown after a nine month illness. She was 60 years of age.

Wife of well known business man, Liam Keating, she was a loving mother to her four children, Caitriona, David, Helen and John.

A Gorey native, Anne (nee Murphy) trained as a primary school teacher in Manchester, and returned to Ireland to continue her career.

The majority of her teaching life was spent in the Faythe School where she will be remembered very fondly as a kind and committed educator, who instilled a passion for reading and art in all of her pupils.

She was mainly a teacher for the first and second classes, and took great care and pride in preparing many of her young pupils for their First Holy Communion.

She met her husband Liam, a Wicklow native in Courtown in 1968, and they married in 1974.

Throughout her marriage, Ann played a key role supporting her husband in his business endeavours. She particularly played a part in managing rental properties they owned in Castlebridge, and devoted much time to ensuring those business affairs ran smoothly.

She was a devoted mother, who adored her children and subsequent grandchildren.

A sociable woman, with a large personality, she enjoyed being out and about with Liam, and encouraging and supporting her children in all of their endeavours.

She is survived by her husband, daughters, sons, grandchildren Hannah and Cillian, son-in-law Eamon, daughter-in-law Waty, sisters in law, relatives and here m any friends.

Her remains will be removed from her residence today, (Wednesday) at 11.30 a.m. to the Church of the Assumption, Bride Street for funeral Mass at 12 noon. Burial will take place afterwards in St. Ibar's Cemetery, Crosstown.
