Conmen posed as gardaí

Wednesday February 03 2010

CONFIDENCE tricksters posing as members of the Gardaí swindled an elderly Wexford woman out of her pension last Saturday.

Two middle aged men knocked on the door of a woman from Carrigeen Street at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, and said that they were members of the Gardaí.

The two men told the woman, a pensioner in her mid-seventies, that they were investigating counterfeit money and asked to examine the contents of her wallet.

The elderly victim showed the men her purse, containing her pension, which they stole from her.

The two men were both said to be middle aged and wearing glasses. One was said to be 6ft tall, while the other was of a smaller build.

Gardaí are investigating.
