The contract for the new Crosstown sewerage scheme was signed in on August 21, with the tender for the project expected to be awarded in the coming weeks.
The project, which will connect the district to the Wexford town system, will coincide with the road works along the R741.
'It makes sense to carry out the works when the road is being repaired,' said Cllr. George Lawlor.
The work entails the laying of approximately 127 metres of concrete sewer pipes in the road. It is welcomed by Cllr. Lawlor, who said that he has been 'campaigning long and hard' for such action.
'It is essential to connect them to the main drainage system to improve the situation in relation to pollution,' he said.
