More than €5,000 worth of damage was caused at Gorey Rangers last week when thieves broke in and wrecked the place.

Club chairman Bear Kennedy said the brazen thieves who were captured on nearby CCTV broke into the clubhouse through the back room and caused thousands of euro of damage as they tried to steal copper

pipes.

He said: 'They cut the copper pipes and tried to rob a huge cylinder we have. They flooded the whole place and left it in a right mess. We've no showers or toilet facilities now at the moment because of it.

'It took a whole day for six or seven of us to clean the place up after them. They left it in an awful state.

'Luckily they were captured on CCTV so the guards are following that up. The CCTV has some high quality pictures of them.'

The robbery took place in the early hours of Thursday morning, hours after the club had been training there. 'The amount of damage they did for what they got is unreal,' said Bear. 'They must have thought the big cylinder was copper but they copped on that it wasn't so they left it behind.

'They came in though the business park and got in through the back door. It will cost us around €5,000 to get the clubhouse back in shape again.'
