Wexford COUNTY COUNCIL is seeking sites on which to begin building houses in late 2016 or early 2017.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding welcomed the new drive to build social housing. Cllr Malcolm Byrne asked how much land has been bought by the local authority through compulsory purchase orders. Director of Services for Housing John Carley said: 'We are looking at sites across the county.' Cllr Byrne said derelict buildings in urban locations could be made available.
The meeting heard that €3m in Government funding could kick-start a social housing programme in the county.
Cllr Michael Sheehan said there are vacant houses across the county which could be used.
