Counting of votes under way at St Joseph's

Ballot boxes from across Wexford were opened at 9am on Saturday morning in St Joseph's Community Centre.
From early morning the count centre was a hive of activity as counters, tally people, candidates, their families and supporters descended on the spacious community centre.
Despite its size there is a strict door policy with only those with a coveted count centre ticket, pre approved members of the media or officials getting past door security.
The tally people are currently hard at work compiling tallies trying to accurately predict who will top the poll and which of the candidates has the best chance of being elected based on the first preference votes.
Unlike previous years each of the large parties are compiling their own individual tallies and are not partaking in a cross party tally which is often viewed as more accurate.
With 17 candidates on the ballot paper a first count is not expected until late this afternoon.
