Wexford County Council's Fire Services Department has been awarded a coveted international quality standard in respect of its Health and Safety Management System.

The certification is valid for all employees and facilities within the Council's fire service. It covers training practices, maintenance of equipment and facilities, management of contractors and visitors, welfare and occupational health, together with all activities for readiness and post-incident requirements.

Acting Chief Fire Officer John Maher said the award underlines the commitment of Wexford County Council's Fire Service to deliver a safe and effective service to the community at large.

'I congratulate all members of the Fire Service and the Health and Safety team in achieving this prestigious award and I want particularly to thank everyone for their wholehearted engagement in the process of developing procedures, ongoing training and continuous effort to improve health and safety within the Fire Service,' said Mr Maher.
